What are the different ways I can learn on Terracotta?

There are several different ways to learn on Terracotta; below is an overview of each of them!

We offer subscription-based programs, as well as video classes and live classes.

Programs

Our programs require a Terracotta subscription. They are a more immersive experience for our students, with a much greater amount of content and offerings provided. You will only have access to the program and the included videos and resources when you have an active membership.

Our Fine Art Mentorship with Thomas Schaller and the Masters of Watercolor Explorer Program are fully self-paced. The Fine Art Mentorship has quarterly registration, while the Explorer Program is always open for joining. You will get access to video lessons, which include exercises to practice and projects to demonstrate your learning. Both programs also offer live events throughout the month (the Mentorship every other month) to engage and learn from the artists in a live setting. Multiple membership tiers are offered for these two programs, and both annual and monthly subscriptions are available.

Our Aristides Atelier offers a live program, with cohorts beginning each Fall and running through the month of May. Aristides Atelier also offers a Private Mentorship program where students can learn at their own pace and meet with a mentor weekly. Students are able to enroll in Private Mentorship at any time.

Video Classes

Video Classes allow you to learn from master artists at your own pace. Included in the purchase of a video class are pre-recorded instructional video demonstrations professionally filmed on-site with the artist, paired with self-paced exercises and projects to demonstrate your learning. Each video class typically includes 2-3 demonstrations (the exact number will be listed in the class description). Students can purchase the video class with or without personal critiques from the artist.

Videos are viewed directly from our platform; no download required. Includes lifetime access to videos, exercises, projects, and resources.

Live Classes

Live workshops are conducted via Zoom and co-hosted by Terracotta alongside a member of our faculty. Most workshops span 1–3 days, though some courses offer extended engagement over several weeks or months. During each session, you’ll follow along as the instructor demonstrates their process in real time, with opportunities for Q&A throughout or at the end. Some workshops also include personal critiques from the artist; these details are noted in the specific course descriptions.

When you register for a paid live class, you’ll receive lifetime access to all recordings, videos, and resources. Recordings are streamed directly through our platform; no downloads necessary. Access to live classes via the Masters of Watercolor Explorer Program will have access to the live workshops as long as their subscription is active.
