CRITIQUE SESSION FAQ
We want every critique to be as useful as possible, both for you and for everyone listening. Please follow these guidelines when you submit.
When and where
Submit your work to the Group Critique by clicking Share Your Artwork below.
Spots are limited
Each critique session has room for 10 submissions, taken in the order they were submitted.
If you submit after the first 10, your piece will automatically move to the next month’s critique, and you’ll be first in line.
What to submit
One piece per student per session. This gives everyone a fair turn within the hour. A single piece can include a few closely related images, such as a block-in alongside its finished drawing.
Work from any Collective class is welcome, whether it’s finished or still in progress.
Photographing your work
Photograph the work straight on, in even, natural light, with no glare or shadows.
Crop out the background so only the artwork shows.
Upload at a good resolution so the instructor can see detail.
If your reference matters (a cast, a master copy, a still life), include a photo of it too.
Tell us about your piece. In the description, include:
Your name and the class or assignment the work is from
The medium, and roughly how far along the piece is
One or two specific questions for the instructor (for example, “Are my proportions working?” or “How can I make the shadows read better?”) Specific questions lead to the most useful feedback.
Good to know
Critiques are meant to help you grow. Feedback will be honest, constructive, and kind, and we ask everyone to bring the same spirit when listening and responding.
Sessions are recorded and available in the Virtual Studio afterward.
